File and Data Recovery From Hard Drives
As the years have passed, hard drives have not only increased in capacity, they have also decreased in size and increased in complexity and features. Unfortunately with the increase in capacity, reliability has not necessarily increased, and with more data storable on each drive, when one stops functioning a lot of important and often valuable information can be lost.
At Hertfordshire Data Recovery we split File and Data Recovery into 3 categories.
Lost Files or Data
The simplest of these issues are lost files or data due to no physical or logical damage to the drive. Causes behind these can be as simple as accidental or intentional deletion, formatting, result of a virus on the computer. Our immediate advice is STOP using the machine as soon as you realise files are missing. If you fail to do this you are increasing the chances your files will not be recoverable. Call us straight away as the majority of these issues can be solved on-site when one of our engineers comes to access the situation without the need for you to purchase any new hardware.
Data Loss or Hard Drive Failure Due To Logical Issues
When data is lost due to logical drive issues you may notice strange things happening in the operating system such as it becoming un-responsive, showing errors such as CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check), files not opening or not opening correctly. Alternatively you may not be able to boot your computer or access your drive and it may not show up in your computer's Bios. There is also the chance it may make a clicking noise. Again our advice is DO NOT use this machine or hard drive. If you do it may cause further problems and decrease the chances of getting any data back. Contact us as soon as possible and an on-site engineer will access the situation. A small number of drives exhibiting these types of failures can have data recovered on-site, but the majority must be taken away for intensive data recovery processes. Drives suffering for logical issues almost always require replacing for the integrity of your data.
Hard Drive Failure Due To Physical Issues
When a drive fails due to physical reasons it will invariably fail to boot. It will usually not be recognised by the bios and it will often make a clicking or grinding noise or sometimes no noise at all! This can be seen as the worst type of failure, but again we at Hertfordshire Data Recovery can help you out. As soon as you notice any of the above issues stop using your drive or computer immediately and call us. Drives with these types of failures always need to be taken away for repair and our on-site engineer will be able to give you an idea of what the issue is. After full diagnosis we will be able to tell you the exact cause of the problem. Drives suffering from physical issues always require replacing.
Often it is hard to tell on initial viewing whether a drive has a logical or physical issue affecting it, but after an on-site visit and full diagnosis we will be able to give you a full prognosis.
No matter what kind of file or data recovery issues you have, Hertfordshire Data Recovery can help you out. As soon as you suspect an issue, contact us on 0845 475 4512 for help.
